  1. earlier this summer i went to the smithsonian museum of natural history in d.c. for the first time in several years, with visiting relatives, and encountered the "butterfly pavilion" there - it is a fee-based experience, except on tuesdays, although the museum has free admission

  2. It's been about 20 years since I was in a butterfly pavilion, back in Colorado. It's good they're keeping things alive with breeding programs, I just wonder what it is like for a wild thing that migrates and roams to be confined, what happens to the migratory restlessness that is the zugunruhe?
