there's a joke about texas that's half a century old, at least

when i heard it lyndon baines johnson and charles de gaulle were world leaders, and if i was telling this in person i would put on texan and french accents - trays amoozant

lbj's having a hard time conveying to de gaulle just how big texas is - finally he says,

look at it this way, general - you can get on a train in texas on monday morning, and on friday you'll STILL be in texas

de gaulle replies -

ah, je comprend finalement - we have also in france the slow train
