John Jacob Dingleberry Shlitz

I haven't quite finished putting the eyebrows on these pages, but I thought I'd do a "work in progress" post. Here's page 4 of the book.

Here's page 35.

I'm about 30% done, hopefully finishing it up by the end up April.

"They Say You Can Make It If You Try"

Otis Rush---Double Trouble

I lay awake at night, can't sleep, just so troubled
It's hard to keep a job, laid off and havin' double trouble
Hey, they say you can make it if you try
Yes, in this generation of millionaires,
it's hard for me to keep decent clothes to wear

You laughed at me walkin' baby, when I had no place to go,
Bad luck and trouble have taken me, I have got no money to show,
Hey, hey, to make it you've got to try, baby, that's no lie,
Yes, in this generation of millionaires,
it's hard for me to keep decent clothes to wear

Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lyin'

Clarence Thomas finally broke his silence! You wanna know the real reason Clarence Thomas never spoke when the Supreme Court was in session? Well, I'll tell ya why!

It's because he had one of Scalia's pubic hairs stuck in his throat. Now that he's dislodged it from his throat, they're going to put the image of the pubic hair on American dollars. No word yet on whether or not the Post Office will be issuing commemorative stamps.

Skunkball

Here's my first effort at the woodblock print, the cover for an upcoming comic book, Skunkball. It was a lot of fun. I didn't have any printing ink, so I used some acrylic paint that I've had sitting around for years, collecting dust. I had to play around with adding water to get the right consistency.
Skunkball is a game we played in my house when I was a kid. Here's the back cover. The negative lettering, my name and date, came out much better than the positive lettering, the "Skunkball" on the front cover. The Skunkball part was a bit muddy. I've gone back and embellished the image with some black ink.
Here are some more copies with varying degrees of paint density.
And the woodblock.

Graphic Witness

For the past year or two, I've been mulling over the possibility of dabbling in some printmaking in relation to my comics. I did a series of watercolor embellished rubber stamp prints for Christmas cards last month, and I was thinking of doing prints for the covers of comics. I've done silkscreening before, but I'm not feeling the love for silkscreening right now. I was really thinking more along the lines of some type of block printing, like linoleum or wood. But, you know, I can get lazy and uninspired...and then today I picked up a copy of Graphic Witness. And then I went out and bought some woodcarving tools.

Zencomix is 8 Years Old

Oh, a Weiss guy, eh...nyuck,nyuck,nyuck
2013 is shaping up nicely. It should be a productive year for me. Aside from the long form comic, "John Jacob Dingleberry Shlitz, His Name Is My Name, Too", that I'm working on (should be well over 100 pages!), I'm enjoying the mini comic format. Lots of ideas pouring from my head on that front. A 16 pager, "The Masturbations and Rationalizations of Bill O'Reilly as Performed by The Masturbator Himself Under The Direction of Alan Greenspan" is next out of the gate.
